Randy R. Ward, age 60, of Elgin, passed away peacefully at home on January 4, 2017. He was born in Portage, Wisconsin on December 26, 1956 to his loving parents, Larry and Patricia (nee Foley) Ward.

Following graduation from high school, Randy worked as a well driller.  He went on to serve as a faithful employee for the City of Elgin Water Department.

Randy was an active member of the Sons of American Legion at American Legion Post 57 in Elgin for 31 years.  In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, birdwatching (especially for eagles), and watching NASCAR racing.

Randy was a well-known bargain hunter.  He loved getting deals and being on the Elgin Radio Shopping Show, where the hosts happily remarked that he was one of their best customers.

Loved ones will always remember Randy’s big heart and great sense of humor.  For many years he served as “Santa Claus” for family and friends, and his jolly personality was the perfect fit.

Randy was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Ward; his parents Larry and Patricia, and his brother, Mike Manley.

Randy is survived by his brother, Mark (Diane) Ward; his partner, Debbie Gregory; nieces and nephews, Stacy Ward-Money, Brian Ward and Michael Manley; and many loved ones who knew him as “Grandpa Randy.”

Visitation will be 3:00PM til time of service at 5:00PM, Saturday, January 14, 2017, Rev. Tim Perry officiating, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin IL 60120. Interment will be private.

Following the service, friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life dinner at American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty St., Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 South LaFox, South Elgin, IL 60177.
