Peter Lindsay Bell, age 58, of Evanston, Illinois, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, in Elgin, in his sleep.  He was born December 9, 1956, to the parents of Robert and Joan Bell.

Born and raised in Elgin, Peter developed many childhood friendships that endured for his entire life.   He was an alum of McKinley Elementary, Larson Junior High, Elgin High School, Columbia College and the University of Missouri.

Throughout his life, Peter was a vibrant soul who had an unending passion for living. A devoted man, his loyalty to friends and family was second to none.  Even during life’s most difficult moments, Peter reminded us to stand up for ourselves, be counted, and have faith. He served as a positive beacon of courage, and as one who illuminated what could be possible in our lives.

Peter was a strong believer that knowledge is power, and he was a fountain of original concepts and ideas. After graduating from college, he became a corporate auditor.  Soon after, Peter would self-start a career on what would be a very rewarding and creative path involving many different forms of media, including music, video, film, and event production. In the early 1980s, he served as Executive Producer and Founder of Chicago Choice Picks, a platform he conceived to link musicians with recording studios.  Peter’s multi-venue event helped to launch the idea for what is now known as SXSW (South by Southwest), a national music festival founded by his long-time friend, Louis Meyer. Throughout his life, Peter managed and contributed to the careers of many artists. In 2000, he launched his own production company, Clear Pictures, in Evanston, Illinois. He produced a wide range of events for many firms, from Fortune 500 companies to small tech start-ups.

Peter’s keen intelligence and love of sharing invigorated all who knew him. The insatiably curious nature he had gave rise to unique discoveries in his life, which he would then share with the rest of us, leading us to keenly appreciate the world around us. He was an independent soul who loved, and believed in, the power of community. His passions for nature, sailing, art, music, animals, reading, good food, and golf, were all reflections of his spirit. Peter Bell was a loving soul who was a compatriot to all he crossed paths with.

Unexpectedly, Peter passed from our presence, but he will forever remain in all of our hearts and souls. Bless you Peter, our brother and son, for we love you too. No words can measure the grief we feel with your passing, and we will miss you until we meet again. Your spirit will continue to warm us, giving us true peace in our times of suffering.

Peter is survived by his father, Robert; his three brothers, Scott, David, and John; the love of his life, Mary Lou Mydill, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
