Paul Sven Forslund, age 86, of Algonquin, passed away on July 1, 2016 at Advocate Sherman Hospital, in Elgin, IL. He was born July 5, 1929 in Arvika Sweden, the fourth of five boys to loving parents Wilhelm and Esther Forslund.
As a young man, Paul served in the Swedish Home Guard during World War II and also in the Swedish Army. Paul travelled the world with the Swedish Merchant Marine and emigrated to the United States in 1952.
He met the love of his life, Mona, in Chicago at a dance in 1959 sponsored by the Swedish Newcomer Society of the International Order of Good Templars: Scandinavian Grand Lodge . They were married in 1960 and spent 56 loving years together as they raised a family.
Paul worked as a master carpenter for more than fifty years as well as doing custom woodworking and remodeling. Paul also carried on his family’s legacy as a fifth-generation jeweler, owning and operating Bonnie Dundee Jewelers in West Dundee, IL for almost a decade.
Loved ones will remember Paul’s wonderful sense of humor. He was a phenomenal cook and especially enjoyed Japanese cooking. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and outdoorsman.
Paul was preceded in death by his brothers Eric, Tage and Rune Forslund.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Mona; sons John (Denise) and Paul (Kathie) Forslund; brother Per Forslund; and grandchildren Morghan, Colby, Bria, Aaron and Peyton.
Visitation will be 1:00-3:00p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin, IL 60120. Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00p.m. Interment will be private. For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society in Paul’s name in lieu of flowers.
