Patrick Charles Doiel, age 71, of Elgin passed away on June 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Elgin, Illinois on January 21,1944 to Charles Doiel and Shirley Spoonholtz.

Patrick was a loving husband, father of six and grandfather of eight.  He was an intelligent, strong willed, and practical man who had a tough exterior but a generous and caring heart.  He was a machinist by trade and also enjoyed fixing anything that could be taken apart and put back together.

Patrick served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army Special Forces Green Berets. He completed three tours of duty before residing in Vietnam where he married his wife of 48 years, Huynh ngoc Phung. He worked for Alaska Barge as a civilian in Vietnam, and he and Phung had four children. During the evacuation of Saigon in 1975, Patrick was able to facilitate the safe escape of his family via helicopter out of the country. Patrick and Phung settled in Elgin, where they had two more daughters.  He retired from American National Can/Silgan Corporation.

He is survived by his wife, Huynh ngoc Phung (Kim), his children Michael, David (Tammy) Doiel, Patricia (Kenneth) Holt, Katherine (Katie) Doiel-Tosterud, Kimberly, and Jacqueline Doiel; his grandchildren: Kaylin, Karis, Kristiana, Joshua, and Kiley Doiel, Jack Doiel-Tosterud, Katherine and Allison Holt; his sisters Gloria Zwicky, Mary Maki, Vera Cunningham, Debbie Pajala, Bessie Bouska, Julie and Tammy Doiel.

He was preceded in death by his brother David and his sister Kathy Doiel.

The visitation will be Saturday June 13, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 PM with service at 7:00 pm on Saturday, at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, Illinois. Interment will be private.
