Noreen Marie McCann, of Elgin, died suddenly on Saturday, July 29, 2017. She was the beloved daughter of the late James and Ruth (Fitzgerald) McCann.  She is survived by her cherished brother James McCann, Jr., her fond niece and nephews Shannon, Sean, and Timothy, an Irish clan of cousins, and scores of dear friends. After attending Northern Illinois University, Noreen went to work at the Allstate Insurance Company, where she spent her entire successful career. Shortly after retiring, along with a few friends, she co-founded a firm engaging in estate sales and clean-outs.  Noreen was never one to be idle!

A lifelong and proud resident of Chicagoland, Noreen cared deeply for her community, and throughout her life was a loyal and consistent volunteer for several nonprofit organizations, most notably Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, including a term of service on their Board of Directors, and the Northern Illinois Food Bank, where she was performing administrative support work up until her passing.

Noreen cultivated many circles of friends and family, and seemingly with ease she wove them into the beautiful tapestry that was her life, diligently finding ways to connect all these people by planning an hosting lively gatherings, both large and small.  She was an incredible storyteller, recounting outrageous tales of everyday life, always careful that the humor was at her expense, so that none of the other cast of living characters was shamed.  One could have no truer friend than Noreen.  She was deeply loved, and will be forever missed. A celebration of her life is being planned for later this summer.

Memorial contributions may be made in Noreen’s honor to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, or to any charity of your choice.
