Muriel Arlene (Cook) Taylor, 100, of Elgin, passed away November 11, 2019. She was born February 8, 1919 in Ithaca, Michigan to her loving parents, Milan and Mildred Cook.

She was the fourth child of six and grew up on the family farm in rural Gratiot County, doing her share of the family chores. After graduating from the local one-room schoolhouse, she went on to Central Michigan University for her B.S. teaching degree. It was here that she met her husband, Mynderse “Mike” Taylor, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Muriel married Mike when he returned from the war in February 1944 and moved to the Chicago area to settle down in Arlington Heights, IL.

She was a long-time teacher of 25 years at Lincoln Junior High in Mount Prospect School District 57, where she always gave attention to students who needed encouragement. In her free time, her hobbies included camping and traveling the country with friends and family.

Muriel was active at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mount Prospect, as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout troop leader.

After retirement, she spent a few more years in Mount Prospect until Mike passed away. She then moved to Del Webb, Huntley until her 99th birthday, at which time she moved to assisted living in Elgin, IL. While in Huntley, she was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, West Dundee, IL.

Muriel is survived by her children; Kent Taylor of Lake Worth, FL, Terry (Beth) Taylor of Elgin, IL, and Patricia Taylor of Rockford, IL; grandchildren Kellie, Chera, Steve, Scott, Dylan, Alissa, Kacey, and Connor; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving daughter Lynnea “Lynne” Taylor of Alameda, CA.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday December 7, 2019 at St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St., West Dundee, IL 60118, Rev. Donald J. Frye officiating.  Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA alongside her dear husband.
