Michael Ledbetter, age 33, passed away on January 21, 2019. He was born April 27, 1985 in Elgin, Illinois to his loving parents, Michael and Pamela Ledbetter (Kolb).

Michael attended Elgin’s Washington Elementary, Abbott Middle School and graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 2003.

Michael worked as a professional, award-winning musician for the last fifteen years, most recently performing internationally together with Mike Welch as the Welch-Ledbetter Connection. Their first record, “Right Place, Right Time,” won the award for best traditional blues album at the 2018 Blues Music Awards. He was a talented vocalist trained in Opera and a self-taught guitar player. Career highlights included singing the National Anthem at White Sox Park, performing at Carnegie Hall in 2016, and singing at the Otis Rush Tribute concert in 2016.

Michael was engaged to his fiancee Kathleen Cahoon, and together they raised two children and had planned to spend many more years together. Michael treasured his time spent with family and recently began performing closer to home to spend more time with them.

Loved ones will remember Michael’s tremendous sense of humor, humility, and devotion to others. In his free time, he pursued bodybuilding and martial arts. He had a phenomenal memory and could quote lines from many movies and sing lyrics to even more songs.

Mike will always be remembered for the way his speaking or singing filled every stage and room, and his voice will forever ring in loved one’s ears, hearts and minds.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandmothers Mae Kolb and Hattie Mae Ledbetter, and his aunts Susan Evans, Janet Washington and Stacey Washington.

Michael will be dearly missed by his parents Michael and Pamela; his parent in-laws Linda (Patrick) Cahoon; fiancee Kathleen Cahoon; children Holland Symone, 4, and Michael Patrick Ledbetter, 1; sister Ginger (Joe) Burroughs; brothers-in-law William (Lauren) Cahoon and Gary (Sarah) Cahoon; aunts and uncles Robert (Sue) Ledbetter, Wayne (Sue) Ledbetter, Ikie Ledbetter, Debbie (Harry) Robertson, George (Teresa) Washington, Teresa Washington; Michael Kolb, Sharon Kolb, Mike (Debbie) Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Keith Murphy, and Patti (Greg) Traverso; nieces and nephews Brandon, Jacob, Savana, and Joslyn Burroughs, Brayden, Eva and Eden Cahoon.

Visitation will be 5:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120. Visitation will continue at 11:00a.m. until time of funeral service at Noon Wednesday January 30, 2019 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
