Merle M. Lohmeier, age 83, of Elgin, passed away on July 10, 2017 at Presence-St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. She was born July 25, 1930 in Plato Township, IL to her loving parents, Fred and Elna Pease (nee Neilsen).
Merle married the love of her life, Charles Lohmeier, on August 5, 1950, and they shared 62 wonderful years together, raising a family. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
In her free time, Merle enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, creating cross-stitching and needlepoint pieces. She was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church, participating in the Ladies Aid and quilting group. She also loved to square dance and Polka, and even took 1st place in square dancing contest. Merle was a wonderful cook, known for her cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip and seven layer cookies.
Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lohmeier; son Randal Lohmeier; great-grandson Corey Frazier; and sisters Bernadine Baumgartner and Arlene Engel.
Merle is survived by her children Terry Whisenant, Pat Drews, Dot (Jim) Masel, Donna Lohmeier, and Dan (Vicky) Lohmeier; grandchildren Sara (Roger) Perry, Rachel (Ken) Koivisto, Tracy (Tony) Solis, Dawn Frazier, Brian Lohmeier, Sabrina (Dan) Chapetta, Jeremy (Jennifer) Masel, Brad (Carin) Masel, Patrick Drews, Bobby (Tina) Drews, Dawn White, Louie Whisenant, Will (Sara) Whisenant, Melisa Whisenant, Lauri Whisenant, Jacob (DeeAnn) Lohmeier, Jocelyn Lohmeier, Desiree Erickson, and Andrew Erickson; siblings Adelbert Pease and Velda Engel; 26 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin IL 60120. Visitation will continue 10:00a.m. til time of service at 11:00a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 109 N. Spring St, Elgin, IL 60120, Rev. Hannibal Frederich officiating. Interment to follow at Elm Lawn Memorial Park, 401 E. Lake St, Elmhurst, IL 60126. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
