Marion Louise Volkening, age 89, of Elgin, passed away June 22, 2016 in Verona, Wisconsin. She was born in Roselle, IL February 27, 1927 to the loving parents of Arthur and Meta Thiemann.
Marion spent her childhood on the family farm in Schaumburg. She graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1945 and lived most of her adult life in Elgin, where she was homemaker. She married the love of her life, Willis Volkening, in 1945, and together they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2010.
Marion cared deeply for her family and devoted her life to them. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had many happy memories of the time they spent together.
She was an active member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and Lutheran Child and Family Services. She attended Bible study regularly and volunteered her time and talents to many church and civic organizations.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; son Craig; and sisters Gladys Thiemann and Lucille West.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Shirley) Volkening; brother Donald Thiemann; grandchildren Aaron (Raechal) Volkening, Lisa K. Volkening, Jeremy (Lisa D.) Volkening; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 115 N. Spring St, Elgin, funeral service will follow at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Clifford “Hannibal” Frederich officiating. Interment at Lakewood Memorial Park, 30W730 U.S. 20, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
