Maria Jankovic, age 94, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2015 in the company of her family. She was born in Klek, Yugoslavia in 1920 to her loving parents of Margaret (Massong) and Johann Stumpf.
Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She immigrated to the United States with her husband in September of 1950. She worked in the manufacturing industry for Chicago Rawhide Company, retiring in the 1970s with more than 20 years of service. Her passion was cooking for family and friends and she was best known for her stuffed peppers and sarma. She also loved to crochet afghans. Maria will always be remembered by her children as a most loving mom. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her which will never be filled.
Maria is survived by her daughter Marianna (James) Mihelich, her son, Peter (Julie) Jankovic, grandchildren, Brian (Bekki) Mihelich, Bob (Erin) Mihelich and great-grandchildren, Mason, Porter, Reed, Cora and Kate.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband Dragutin and 3 brothers, Peter, Nickolas, and Anthony and 6 sisters Katherin, Elizabeth, Margarete, Magdelena, Susanna, and Anna.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with services starting at 11:00 a.m. at The Holy Mother Of God Monastery and Cemetery, 35240 W. Grant Avenue, Third Lake, IL 60046.
