Marcella Thomas, age 65, of Carpentersville, IL, passed away on January 22, 2022. She was born February 29, 1956 in Italy to her loving parents, Giuseppe Poli and Angela Del Bello.

Marcella grew up and graduated from school in Italy. She met her husband, Ontavus, in Germany when he was stationed there with the United States Air Force. They wed in Denmark, and were married for 35 wonderful years.

Marcella worked for many years in retail. Her last job before retiring was with the Wal-Mart in Crystal Lake, IL. She was a hard worker, and she worked well with others. She was also very good with languages, and spoke three: Italian, German, and English.

Marcella was a terrific cook; lasagna was her specialty. Her husband often joked that he “didn’t get fat by accident!” She also enjoyed playing electronic slots, putting puzzles together, and, as of late, perusing and forwarding hilarious TikTok videos to her family.

Her husband fondly remembers when they lived in Virginia. One year he bought the whole family a season pass to the Busch Gardens amusement park, but Marcella was afraid to get on the rides. They finally convinced her to try a rollercoaster just once. She said she liked it, but swore never again!

Marcella loved deeply and was very loyal. She adored her dogs and had a number over the years whose names were Duchess, Jack, Prince, Bear, Vinnie, and the latest, Stewie. She had 3 cats that she loved, as well, named Annalise, Annabelle, and Whiskey.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, Ontavus Thomas; children, Jennifer Hethcoat and Mikael Thomas; siblings, Maurizio Poli, Patricia Poli, and Franco Del Bello; grandsons, Alexander Hethcoat, Aiden Kalasa, and Austin Kalasa; in-laws, Wille and Juanita Thomas; siblings-in-law, Sabrina Del Bello, Sharon Finney, and Craig and Debbie Thomas; aunt-in-law, Janie Bain; cousins-in-law, Otis and Lydia Ragins, and Vanessa Ragins; nieces, Diana Del Bello, Sara Del Bello, Francesca Poli, and Candace Thomas; and nephews, Claudio Poli, Mauro Resinelli, Marquise Finney, Martinez Finney, and Cameron Thomas.
