Lorraine A. Young, age 66, of Elgin, IL, passed away on October 18, 2021. She was born December 2, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA to her loving parents, Raymond and Phyllis Swaim (née Robbins).
Lorraine graduated from Bell High School in Bell, CA, Class of 1972. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and was also an instructor at the Galen College of Medical and Dental Assistants.
Lorraine met her first husband, Terry Arnold, at Bell Nazarene Church. They were married for 34 years and had two children together. She later met her second husband, Jason Young, at Curves, and they were married for 13 years.
Lorraine was 31 years sober when she died, and was an active participant in Alcoholics Anonymous, where she sponsored many others on their journey to sobriety.
Lorraine enjoyed quilting, reading, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and listening to music. She also loved playing with her dog, Brother, and zooming with her Arizona grandkids.
Loved ones will remember Lorraine as forgiving, kind, compassionate, sociable, fun-loving, vibrant, optimistic, joyful, and adventurous. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who constantly sacrificed for others. She bravely fought pancreatic cancer for over four years, and maintained a positive and optimistic attitude no matter what life threw at her. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed, but is resting in the arms of the Lord whom she loved her whole life.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Phyllis Swaim; sister, Anita; and ex-husband, Terry Arnold. She is survived by her husband, Jason Young; children, Geoffrey (De’Andra) Arnold of Phoenix, AZ, and Monica (Ken) Dombrowski of Evanston, IL; mother-in-law, Sandra Young; siblings, RaeJean Luper, Richard Swaim, Robin (Colleen) Swaim, Tony (Becky) Swaim, Stanley Swaim, and Heather Yaddie; grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Amelia, Brodie, Evan, and Elizabeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Journey of Hope United Methodist Church, 37W040 Highland Avenue, Elgin, IL 60124.
Interment will be private.
