Leon David Blakark, age 75, passed away at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL on May 6, 2016. He was born April 1, 1941 in Jackson, TN to the loving parents of Douglas and Mary Blalark. He was the fourth child and first son of his proud parents.

Leon attended Jackson public schools, graduating from Merry High School in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for four years.

After leaving military service, Leon moved to Elgin, IL. Known as a passionate music lover, Leon owned LR Records in Elgin. He retired from Iron Mountain after many years of service.

Leon married his loving wife, Tanya, in 2004. He will be remembered as a sharp dresser who loved and wore many hats.

Leon was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Ross and Doris Jean Baker, his brother Don, aka “Tree,” and Rita, the mother of his children.

Cherishing his memory are his wife, Tanya; his sons, Rodney (Terrie), Leon, Jr. (Kumiko), Levan (Vanessa), Kermit (Janine) Ellison, Deevon (Elysia) Coats; daughters Cindy Starks, Kelly (Neil) and Angel; sisters Helen (Larry), Joyce Holloway of Detroit, MI and Linda (Jimmie) Gale; brothers Charles (Darlene) and Pastor Walter (Rebara), all of Elgin; five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 25 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00AM-11:00AM Saturday, May 14, 2016 with funeral service to follow at 11:00AM at Living Gospel Church of God in Christ, 1515 Dundee Ave, Elgin, with Rev, Walter Blalark officiating.
