Kenneth George Zierk, age 67, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2021 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 22, 1954 in Elgin, IL.

Ken proudly served in the United States Air Force, beginning in 1972 during the Vietnam War, and retiring in 1992 as an aerospace ground equipment technician. Throughout his service, he volunteered much of his time with the Special Olympics.

Ken loved sports, especially baseball, and his favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. He never missed a game, whether he was at the game, watching it on live TV, or listening to it on the radio. Ken coached his children’s sports activities and little leagues, and he continued to be involved with his grandsons’ sports activities. He loved talking about sports with his grandkids and attending their games. He was always there for Jacob’s games, and if he couldn’t be at Patrick’s baseball games, he would ask about them. His face lit up with joy every time he was around his grandkids. They were the light of his life.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Zierk and Dorothy Galloway; his sister, Helen Rice; and his first-born son, Kenneth Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elva Zierk; daughters, Michelle Cummings and Rebecca (Nick) Johns; son, Michael (Diana) Zierk; grandchildren, Jacob, Grey, Patrick, and Garrett; sisters, Dianna Kunkle, Donna (Lewis) Corzine, Bonnie Zierk, and Carol (Jon) Vallo; brother, Lester (Peggy) Zierk; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Ken was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to everyone. He always wore a smile and had a great sense of humor. He was a man of great integrity, who worked hard to make sure his family was always cared for.
