John T. Reid, age 72, of Elgin, IL, passed away on June 4, 2021. He was born May 12, 1949 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, John P. and Dorothy E. Reid (née Way).
John graduated from Reavis High School in Burbank, IL, Class of 1968, and then joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably and rose to the rank of corporal. During his service, he received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Meritorious Unit Citation, and a Good Conduct Medal.
John met his wife, Peggy, in 1999 at the Yellow Rose Diner in Chicago, IL. They married in Hawaii on October 24, 2001.
John worked as a truck driver and was an incredibly proud teamster.
John loved listening to his Cubs, watching John Wayne movies, and working on “His” 1957 Chevy with his bff, Rob. Life with him was never boring; he loved roller coasters and jumping off battleships!
John was one of the most unintentionally hilarious people ever known. He was a gatherer of people, and touched more hearts than one can imagine. He liked simple pleasures … give him his honey for biscuits and gravy, peanut butter, and burnt hot dogs, and he was a happy camper.
John was a proud disabled Vietnam War veteran, and a long time volunteer at the Jesse Brown VA. He loved his country, his God and his family. But most of all, he loved the United States Marine Corps … Semper Fi!
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane Parent; and niece, Stacey Weed. He is survived by his first wife, Sandy Reid (née Doyle); second wife, Peggy Reid (née Mulkerrin); children, John R. Reid, Kristyne Reid, and Patricia Robertson; brother, Robert M. Reid; grandchildren, Rory Robertson and Sebastian Reid; and nieces and nephews, Michael Combs, Claudia Combs, Mallory Heart, and Michael Reid.
