John A. McGregor, age 93, of South Elgin, IL, passed away on April 19, 2021. He was born October 20, 1927 in Gibson, NC to his loving parents, Frank and Edith McGregor (née Armand).
John loved his country. In 1944, at age 17, he served as a volunteer during World War II, sitting in a hut and watching for planes that might attack from the skies. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably, and reaching Seaman 2nd Class by his discharge in 1946.
After his military service, John started his own electronics store in Addison, IL. He and his first wife raised show dogs, winning many ribbons and trophies, until she passed away.
Later, John married his second wife, Joanne, and they moved to Elgin. He enjoyed going to flea markets, but eventually health problems set in and he wasn’t able to get out as much. His second wife passed away.
John was always a great storyteller, and had a good memory even at age 93. He was a great friend to all who met him.
John is survived by his daughter, Sylvia (Eduardo) Cordero.
