Janie Evans Wilder, age 66, of Elgin, passed away at Presence St. Joseph Hospital on March 28, 2016. She was born in Hollendale, Mississippi on May 24, 1949 to the loving parents of James and Catherine Harvey.
Janie worked for the Elgin Mental Health Center for more than 15 years. There she met the love of her life, Sammy, and the two were married for 33 wonderful years. Janie was very caring, with a big heart and she always loved to help others. She showed that love as a dedicated member of her, the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved hosting family gatherings and cooking meals for her loved ones. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In her free time, Janie enjoyed gardening, shopping, singing, and writing poetry. She loved listening and singing along to the “oldies,” including Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Sam Cooke. Janie was preceded in death by her nephew, Joseph Matthews.
Janie is survived by her loving husband, Sammy; her children, Kevin (Lucy) Cortez, Vernon Harvey, Jacqueline (William) McKinstry, Vincent Hobbs, Vickie Hobbs, Sagron (Marnie) Harvey, Latara (Daniel) McCall, and Shamara Harvey; her mother, Catherine (Pearlie) Jackson; her sisters, Nancy Redmon and Earlene Shields; her brother, Lawrence Harvey; her nieces and nephews, Jessie and Jerry Thomas, David Woods, Kathy Redmon and Gwendolyn Redmon, Josiah Jones, Larry and Nicole Harvey; and 26 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 31, 2015 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin, IL Funeral service will be Friday April 1, 2015 at 12:00p.m. at Symonds-Madison. Interment to follow at Dundee Township Cemetery, 420 Dundee Ave, East Dundee,
