James L. Franz, age 72, of Elgin, IL, passed away on March 11, 2022. He was born November 11, 1949 in Elgin, IL to his loving parents, Frank and Margaret (née Neri) Franz.

James graduated from Elgin High School, and worked for the Elgin Courier News for 31 years.

James met his wife Pat on a blind date. They were married for 50 years.

James adored his girls, and worked hard for his family. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He was a fan of the Bears and Cubs, and enjoyed playing golf and softball.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Franz. He is survived by his wife, Pat Franz; daughters, Mandy Franz and Jamie (Brian) Preston; sisters, Barbara Appelhans and Donna Cooney; granddaughter, Emma Katherine Preston; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3:00pm until funeral service at 5:00pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Pr. Greg Huguley will be officiating.

Mourners are encouraged to review the funeral home COVID-19 public health policies ahead of time.

Interment will be private.

  2. I am so very sorry for your loss. We will miss Jim at the Vines. Some of us have known him and your beautiful family for years! It seems he had nicknames for a few of us. I was CC!!
    I know he’s strong and healthy again, watching over all of you.

  4. Please be comforted knowing that Jim is now seated with our Lord and Saviour and no longer in pain and suffering. I will remember him always as being a laughable guy that loved photography.
