James Albert Tatman, age 93, of West Dundee, IL, passed away on February 20, 2022. He was born February 2, 1929 in Marysville, OH to his loving mother, Martha Tatman.

Jim spent his time living in Bucyrus, OH and in Illinois. He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Eighth Air Force for three years before being honorably discharged in 1953.

Jim married Pauline Chappell, and together they had one son. They divorced in 1974.

Jim worked for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for 24 years before retiring in 1996.

Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and joked a lot. He was always joyful and very positive, and always smiling his huge, memorable smile. He had one grandson he adored, and he also loved all the children in his extended family … to them, he was “Grandpa,” too.

Jim enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, but his favorite hobby was airplanes. He was an avid reader of books about airplanes and the history of flight. He built many scale model airplanes, and regularly attended the Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in at Oshkosh, WI. His heart lived to fly, and he enjoyed sharing that love of airplanes with others.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Blanch Tatman Hayes; sister, Norma Jean Hawkins; and brother, Bobby Tatman. He is survived by his son, James Tatman; daughter-in-law, Karen Tatman Romero; grandson, Kevin M. Tatman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
