Hattie Mae Washington – Ledbetter (nee Douglas) age 85, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014. She was born August 1, 1929 in Tupelo, Mississippi to the loving parents of Turner and Queen Annie Douglas.
Hattie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She confessed her love of Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of St. Paul MB Church, Charles A. Ramsey Pastor. She was on the Mother Board and sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, most of all her caring for her prized roses bushes. She was also a big fan of true crime TV. Hattie worked at Elgin Mental Health Center as a mental health technician and retired after 20 years of loyal service.
Hattie is survived by her children, Ikie, Michael (Pam), Robert (Sue), Douglas (Sue) Ledbetter, Teresa L. Washington, Debra (Harry) Roberts, George (Teresa) Washington. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Hattie was preceded in death by her son, Henry Washington lll, daughters, Janet and Stacey Washington, nine sisters, Ethel D. Robinson, Sarah M. Fortson, Aggie M. Kyles,Addie M. King, Estelle Tatum, Sarah A. Walker, Rosanna McAllister, Queen A. Johnson, and Eliza A. Powell, and four brothers, Thad Robinson, Oschar Douglas, Jessie L. Douglas and Willie B. Douglas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 9:00 AM till time of service at 10:00 AM at Second Baptist Church, 1280 Summit Street, Elgin, IL, with interment at Bluff City Cemetery Elgin, IL.
