Harry Walter Casmer, age 89, passed on to the eternal rest May 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was born June 16, 1924 in Inkster, Michigan to the loving union of Frederick and Emily (Kuehn) Casmer.
Harry was a devoted husband of 66 years to Dovie (Simpson), and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always eager to share the Word of God and his love for Jesus Christ. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II with 313th Co. 6113 Ordnance Battalion and enjoyed regaling family and friends with stories of his service in the ordinance as a mechanic in Great Britain and France. He worked for many years in commercial construction as a member of the National Association of Heat, Frost and General Insulators and Asbestos Workers of America. He was an avid fisherman his entire life, fishing in most of the Great Lakes, northern Canada, and even in Alaska. He loved to gather with immediate and extended family whenever possible. Harry was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westland, MI since the 1950’s and served as chairman of the building committee for the construction of the present church building, which he considered a great honor.
He is survived by his wife Dovie, his daughter Sharon (Gentry) Yearout, their children, Joy (Fiance Daniel Symonds) , Sarah (Paul) Girard; his son Frederick (Sue), their children, Philip (Kimberly), Daniel (Rachel), and Andrew (Janelle); and his son Mark (Carol), their children Sydney and Lindsey. Great grandchildren: Zoe, Adele, Myka, and Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Esther, Hilda, Edna, Elsie, Arthur, Ruth, Herbert, Robert, and Dorothy.

Lying in State Friday, May 30, 2014 from 9:00AM until service at 10:00AM at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pastor David Furno and Pastor Phillip Casmer officiating, 5320 Glenwood Road, Westland, MI. Interment following with military honors at at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park, 35667 W Eight Mile Rd, Livonia, MI.
