Gail Genz, age 82, of Elgin, passed away May 7, 2020 at Sheridan at Tyler Creek, in Elgin. Gail was born April 17, 1938 in Aurora, IL to her loving parents, Roy W. and Olive N. Holdiman (Pearce).
Gail graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1956, Moser Secretarial School, and Elgin Community College.
She went on to work as a legal secretary at Rieger and Rieger Law Firm in Chicago. She also worked doing Circuit Board Assembly from home for CBD and as an Accounts Receivable Representative for Chicago Rawhide (which later became SKF).
Gail married the love of her life, Robert Genz, after meeting on a blind date, and together they shared 33 years of marriage and raised three children. Raising her children remained her #1 priority, and she never hesitated to make personal sacrifices in order to ensure they had everything they needed to succeed.
Gail also enjoyed working alongside Robert as a carpenter and homebuilder, as they built their family homes, the first being located in the Eagle Heights neighborhood of Elgin.
Loved ones will remember Gail’s quiet strength, loyalty and dependability. She was always supportive and accepting of everyone, and enjoyed chatting with friends and family on the phone.
Gail was also an animal lover who took in pets no one else wanted. Her cats brought her tremendous comfort in her later years.
In her free time, Gail was a passionate gardener who took great pride in planting and maintaining her flowers year after year. Her appreciation for flowers inspired her to take up photography, and she took thousands of photos.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Genz and her parents.
Gail is survived by her son Roger (Terri) Genz, daughter Marlisa Genz, son Kurt Genz, and many nieces and nephews.
