Elmer W. Jensen, age 94, of Elgin, passed away at home on August 4, 2016. Elmer was born to Arthur and Caroline Brink on March 28, 1922 and raised by his loving parents, William and Frieda Jensen.
Elmer graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1941 and attended New Mexico State College in Las Cruces, NM. Elmer served his country during World War II in the United States Navy Reserve as a Machinist Mate 1st Class. From 1942 to 1945 he served in Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.
He married wife Lorraine in 1943, and they shared 56 loving years together as they raised a family. Elmer worked for the Elgin Watch Factory for 15 years and Hills McCanna (Rockwell International) for 30 years. He also worked as a wake attendant for Madison Funeral Home when he returned home from the war.
Elmer was a member of the International Association of Machinists and American Legion Post 2910 in Bloomington, IL. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Elgin.
Elmer will be remembered for his quiet, gentle spirit and strong work ethic. He was a man of great faith who was always grateful for the blessings in his life. In his free time, he enjoyed walking the track at the Centre of Elgin. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dear friend Betty McKeown.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; brothers Arthur Brink and Wallace Jensen; and sisters Darlene Widmayer and Fern Diekman.
Elmer is survived by dear friend Betty McKeown; children, Elmer (Diane) Jensen Jr., of Eagle River, WI, Daniel Jensen of Elgin, IL, and Karen (Coke) Erickson LaFollette of Hampshire, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Juliya) Jensen, Ben (Sue) Erickson, Chris (Mary Beth) Erickson, Liz (John) Feehan, Becky (Brad) Bettin; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Nolan, Sophia, Alex, Matthew, J.T., and Ben.
Visitation will be 10-11:00a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St, Elgin, IL 60120, with service at 11:00a.m., Pastor Jack Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd, Elgin, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, which provides help to pediatric cancer patients and their families in the Chicagoland area, and to Immanuel Baptist Church.
