Eleonora Gloria Young, age 93, a former resident of Huntley and Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Tower Hill Nursing Home on Thursday, June 11, 2020. Eleonora was born on October 7, 1926 to the loving parents of Saverio and Catherine Spinelli (Parlopino). She took pride in being a great wife, mother, Nana, friend and homemaker.
Eleonora was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Vernon “CV” Young whom she married in 1950. She is survived by her sister Marie Foran and her five boys Mark (Giuliana), Vernon (Cathy), Randy (Margaret), David (Chris) & Allen (Melissa) Young along with 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
As a young woman, Eleonora took nurses training and, as a young mother, worked as a vet assistant. In addition to raising her five boys, she spent a number of years and hours working alongside her husband as they owned and operated restaurants (The Tangy Char Pit, La Grange Park; CV’s Snack Shop, Chicago; Candy Cane, Elgin) and catering services. The Young household always had pets and even horses, which Eleonora would trailer as a part-time job. She loved to sew, cook, read, garden, do ceramics and crossword puzzles.
Eleonora’s faith was especially important to her and she had the honor of recording a radio program with George Beverly Shea and serving on a mission team for the Billy Graham Crusades. It wouldn’t be uncommon to see CV and Eleonora catering and donating meals for their church, the Village Church of Barrington. Eleonora loved her Italian heritage and went on to write a number of articles that celebrated Italian culture growing up in Chicago which were published in the Sun City Herald. Her most cherished moments were when her family would all gather together and enjoy a huge meal.
Eleonora drove a Cadillac and leaves us with her vanity plate message: “Ciao Y’all.”
