Eleanor Beatrice Minter passed away on August 21, 2016 at home surrounded by family. She was born on June 23,1936 to Hattie and John Graine.
Eleanor was educated in the Chicago Public School System, attending Burke Elementary and DuSable High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Columbia College. She also studied music with Ms. Jean Fletcher Malette.
Growing up on Chicago’s Southside, Eleanor took dancing from the famous Sadie Bruce. She performed in many of the Sadie Bruce Dance Revues, which were held at the Civic Opera House.
Eleanor married the love of her life, James Minter, and they shared many wonderful years together, raising their family. Eleanor worked for the Department of Public Aid and retired in 1983. After retiring she worked at Harold Washington College. She was a loving and generous person who loved to skate, swim and bike ride. She was baptized at Apostolic Church of God and was a faithful member for 27 years. She was also a faithful member of the Angelic Choir for many years.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, James Minter.
She leaves to celebrate her life, daughters: Denise Ellison and Muriel Minter; granddaughters: Edonna, Darlene, and Selena (Marlon); grandson: Rashad; and great-grandsons: Donovan, James, Zavier, Rayden, Rogan, Ryder and Alex; cousins: Opal Smith, Walter Cook, and Phyllinis, Brian and Mark Easter; and many friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Ronald E. Smith officiating, at Apostolic Church of God, 6320 South Dorchester Ave, Chicago, IL 60637. Interment will be private.
