Earl L. McCormack, age 90, of Streamwood, passed away December 2, 2020 at Alexian Brothers Hospice in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Earl was born July 22, 1930 in Zion, Illinois to his loving parents, H.B. and Ethel Maud McCormack.

Earl was born and raised in Zion, IL, the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Zion Benton Township High School, Class of 1950.

Earl served his country during the Korean War with the 308th Medical Group in the U.S Air Force from 1952 to 1958. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal.

Earl studied watch manufacturing and repair at the Elgin Watch Factory, before returning home to Zion to assist his father with watch repair in their family-owned jewelry store. Following the store’s closure, Earl worked as a Precision Assemblyman for technical magnetic parts that required using a microscope.

Earl met the love of his life, Freda, through a blind date set up by one of his classmates. The two spent the night dancing in Chicago, and were engaged two years later. They married in 1956 and shared 64 wonderful years of marriage together.

Loved ones will remember Earl’s congenial and friendly personality. He was easygoing, talkative, and enjoyed making friends.

In his free time, Earl enjoyed caring for plants at home and playing cards with friends. He was a faithful member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, now known as Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, in Elgin, for many years.

Earl was preceded in death by his brothers, Harley and Darryl McCormack.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Freda McCormack and his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10:00a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12:00p.m. at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, 9N976 S. Randall Road, Elgin, IL 60123. Interment with military honors to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin IL 60120.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Abiding Peace Lutheran Church.

  1. We will miss Earl’s cheery presence in our neighborhood. His love of God, Country, and his wife Freda were readily apparent. He lived life to the fullest, and we are better for having known him.
