Donna Lorine Adams, age 71, of Elgin, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on May 5, 2020. Donna was born January 2, 1949 in Joiner, AR to her loving parents, Nathaniel and Gracy Mae Adams (Glover).
Donna was born and raised in Arkansas in Frenchman Bayou on Strawberry Road. She graduated from J.M. Speck High School in Joiner, Arkansas.
She decided to leave the country, taking a Greyhound bus toward the big city, moving to Chicago at age 18. She retired from Ball Corporation in 2012, and went to work as a District U-46 school bus driver until 2015.
In her free time, Donna enjoyed shopping and going to church. Donna was a dedicated member of Progressive Baptist Church for 30 years. She loved singing in the church choir.
Loved ones will remember Donna as a happy, loving, humble woman, with a diva side.
She never hesitated to warm hearts with a smile and encouraging words. She had a deep love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel Adams Sr.; brother, Brian Smith, and her daughter, Jannette Adams son, Parish Adams and grandparents, Willie and Clara Glover.
Donna is survived by her children, Etta (Cliff) Page, Roshawn Adams, Percy (Evelisse) Powell Jr. and Brandon (Diane) Merritt; her mother Gracy Mae Adams; son-in-law Anthony Mayfield; sister Clara Harris, twin sister Lonna Hammond, Nathaniel Adams Jr., Bruce Adams, Diana Meade, Cynthia (Russell) Jones, Stanley (Myra) Smith, Beverly (George) Williams, Elvis (Tina) Smith, Randy (Glenda) Smith, Homer (Carrie) Boone; grandchildren Donyetta Thurman, Derrick Page, Jazzlyn Page, Shanika Mayfield, Tameika Mayfield, Cameron Adams, Keziah Webster, Answar Rollins, Sammie Norman, Jalisa Adams, Jashayla Gordon, Percy Powell III, Chamar Sallis Jr., Amara Powell, Montana Powell, Brandon Merritt Jr., Deonte Merritt, Desiree Merritt; great-grandchildren, Kennedy White, Azera Rollins, Carson Mayfield, Jamari Jefferson, Ay’Den Jefferson, Sanice Thurman, Donovan Thurman, Destinee Thurman, Denise Adams, Maryella Adams, Jade Merritt, DeAngelo Cain Jr.; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Viewing and service for immediate family will be 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. Thursday May 7, 2020 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home 305 Park St., Elgin IL 60120, Pastor Willie Tate officiating. Loved ones can also participate in the visitation remotely by sending condolences and memories to be displayed in the chapel through the Symonds-Madison Caring Hearts Program by May 7, 2020.
Interment will be private in Arkansas.
