Carolyn E. Waddell, 75, of Schaumburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on March 2, 2018 at Amita Health St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, IL.  She was born October 31, 1942 in Chicago, IL to her loving parents, Raymond and Mary Reschke (nee Koster).

Carolyn graduated from Luther North High School, Class of 1960. She became an organizer for class reunions, and recently celebrated the 50th reunion.  She was united in marriage on April 28, 1962 to the love of her life, Lloyd Michael “Mike” Waddell, and the two shared 55 wonderful years together, raising three children.  Carolyn was a resident of Schaumburg since 1971,  and worked for Deluxe Check Printers and Quaker Oats before retirement.

Carolyn enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends. She always found time for everyone.  She enjoyed traveling with Mike, coast to coast, always stopping to visit family along the way.  They built a cottage together at Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin, where many fond memories were made.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events, and relished becoming a great-grandma in 2016. She arrived at the hospital the day after Lyla was born, because she was so excited to meet her.

Carolyn had many passions.  Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a founding member of Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir.  She also loved to cross-stitch and was involved in many groups, including The Needle’s Nest, Secret Stitchers, Tuesday Stitching Group, and Tarts.  She enjoyed regular trips to Camp Stitchaway with many friends.  She also enjoyed Longaberger Basket trips, and even went on a cruise with friends.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. 

During her mid-life she endured some health challenges and met them head on.  She was a proud breast cancer survivor.   She volunteered for Life Source Blood Center and was part of Silver Threads, for the Alexian Brothers Health System.  Later in life, Carolyn faced new health battles, and her devoted husband Mike was always by her side caring for her every need until the very end.  

Carolyn will be rememberd as a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Not only did she deeply love her family, but she also loved her friends.  She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Warren. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Waddell; children Cheryl (Dan) Haynes, Bryan (Lisa) Waddell, and Mark Waddell; grandchildren Michael Haynes, David (Morgan) Haynes, and Nicole Ciengi; and great-grandchild Lyla.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 10th at 10:00AM until time of service at Noon at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church, 9N976 S Randall Rd, Elgin 60123, Rev. Joshua Free officiating.  Interment will  be private at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made of Abiding Peace Lutheran Church.
