Audrey Louise Metzger, age 93, of Hoffman Estates, IL, passed away February 23, 2020 at Alden Poplar Creek Rehabilitation Center in Hoffman Estates. Audrey was born in Elgin, IL August 28, 1926 to her loving parents, Eugene and Florence Bohlin (Johnson).
Audrey graduated from Plato Center High School. She worked at Modern Dairy, as a professional soloist, and as a homemaker.
She married William Frank Metzger at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Elgin. Together they shared 61 years of marriage and raised three children.
Loved ones will remember Audrey as a deeply spiritual person who embodied her faith in Jesus with empathic care for others. If anyone was ever isolated or alone, she quietly came alongside to be with them. She was beautiful, inside and out.
Audrey was also a spunky, stubborn Swede with a zealous love for her family and friends.
Audrey was a passionate participant in church, serving as a Church Choir Director, choir member, soloist, Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader in different congregations.
Audrey cherished a good hot cup of coffee, her Bible, and many other books. She treasured hymn sings and meaningful conversations with loved ones from dawn to sundown. She also enjoyed gardening and music, from classical to country, from Marian Anderson to Johnny Cash.
Death never diminished Audrey’s profound bond with her dear husband, Bill, parents and granddaughter, and death will not separate us from her.
Audrey was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, and her granddaughter Hannah Louise Green.
Audrey is survived by her children Nancy (Peter) Green, Paul (Mariko) Metzger, and Todd (Rebecca) Metzger; brother Russell Bohlin; grandchildren Emily (Harley) Hayden, Megan (Andrew) Lurvey, Christopher (Keyonna) Metzger, Julianne Metzger, Cailee (Stephen Getz) Sallee, Gretchen Metzger, and Meredith Metzger; and six great-grandchildren: Oliver, Willa, Fitz, Otis, Jaylah, and Theodore.
