Arthur Michael “Doc” Sheehan, age 70, of Elgin, passed away at home on January 24, 2021. He was born July 7, 1950 in Chicago, IL to his loving parents, Arthur Joseph Sheehan and Kathryn Stapleton.
Doc proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War, for which he received the Vietnam Service Award. Later, he became a manager at UPS, a position he held for 28 years.
Doc enjoyed music. He played the guitar beautifully, and used that talent in one band or another almost his entire life.
Doc married his wife, Arlene, in 1991, and they enjoyed almost 30 years together. In addition to adoring his wife, he loved motorcycles. He was also passionate about the VFW (“Veterans of Foreign Wars”), which he joined in 1986. He served as the State Surgeon of the Illinois VFW in 2012. One of his favorite activities at the VFW was playing Santa each year for the local disadvantaged youth. He liked to mix it up, sometimes arriving by fire engine, horse, and even a helicopter. The kids loved it!
Loved ones will remember Doc as compassionate and charismatic, and the best friend anyone could ever have. He touched so many lives as a caring husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Suty-Sheehan; children, Nick (Lisa) Kournetas, Matt Kournetas, and Matt Flores; siblings, James (Janice) Sheehan, Mary (William) Heldt, Kathryn (Myron) Luth, and Barbara (Robert) Cassinelli; grandchildren, Mila Kournetas, Drew Kournetas, Avery Tschampion, and Stella Tschampion; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Interment with full military honors will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road, Cary, IL 60013.
