Antonio Mareen Santana, age 43, of Elgin, passed away at home on December 21, 2020. He was born October 8, 1977 in St. Charles, IL to his parents, Antonio (“Tony”) Rodriguez and Alma Santana-Thomas. Alma later married Jonathan Thomas, who loving raised Antonio as his own son.

Antonio earned his Bachelors in Pastoral Studies at the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, IL. He was very passionate about Christ and would spread the Word to whoever would listen. He was a Christian missionary to all those around him.

Antonio was an amazing artist. He could draw just about anything, and he also painted beautiful portraits. He was also skilled with barber shears. He cut hair to earn money to put himself through school, as well as to buy more books for his vast collection.

In his spare time, Antonio read as many books he could find about all religions so that he could better understand other people’s perspectives about God. The HSN Christian Network once did an documentary about him, and he was also featured on the 700 Club.

Antonio was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Baldemar and Dominga Santana; fraternal grandparents, Francisco and Guadalupe Rodriguez; and father, Tony Rodriguez.

He is survived by his parents, Alma Santana-Thomas and Jonathan Thomas; brother, Trinity Thomas; sisters, Yesaina Santana, Maria Santana, and Felicia Thomas; niece, Najame Cook; nephews, Isaiah Talley, Xavier Santana, and Jackson Thomas; and a multitude of cousins. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be 10:00am until funeral service at 11:00am, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Grace Covenant Baptist Church, 500 St. Charles Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Pastor Aaron Lira will be officiating.

  6. I just found out today. I met Tony around my Junior Year in High School. And for the next two years he was one of my dearest friends. We were young and zealous for our faith. And Tony was one of the most passionate. I love you Tony. I’m sorry I didn’t see you over all these years. But you’re in my heart forever.
