Alfredo Avelar Portillo, age 51, of Mundelein, passed away February 28, 2017 at Journeycare Inc. in Barrington. He was born in Guerrero, Mexico August 4, 1965 to his parents, Salvado Portillo Vergara and Lorenza Avelar Orampo.
Alfredo was a selfless, hard worker, who began working at the age of 12. Most recently, he worked as a landscaper for Wormser for 18 years. He married his childhood friend, Esther, after reuniting in Chicago, and they shared 24 wonderful years of marriage together.
Alfredo was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors. He loved to tell stories of beautiful streams that he’d wish he’d been able to drink from. One rainy summer night, he brought chairs out to the garage, brought the door up, and just watched the rain pour down. He enjoyed the simple things in life, and always visited family in Chicago on Sundays.
Alfredo was preceded in death by his mother, Lorenza Avelar Orampo.
Alfredo is survived by his loving wife, Esther; children, Alfredo Portillo, Jr., Noemi Portillo, and Angel Gabriel Portillo; grandchildren, Ricky Rogus, Reina Rogus, and Adrian Rogus; father Salvador Portillo Vergara; siblings Juana Portillo and Cleto Portillo; and niece Rosalva Garcia.
