Alfred Gerald Patterson, 85, of Elgin, passed away on October 9, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL.  He was born in Chicago, IL on March 7, 1933 to his loving parents, Jenkins N. Patterson and Alice Bernice Smitherman-Patterson.

Alfred graduated from Englewood High School in Chicago, IL, Class of 1951. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve as an Admin for the 6th Armored Division June 1953 through May 1955, earning the National Defense Service Medal.
Following his service, he earned his Associates of Art Degree from Woodrow Wilson Jr. College in 1961, and his Bachelor’s Degree from Chicago Teacher College in 1961.  He later earned his MBA from Lake Forest College in 1971.
Throughout his life, Alfred worked for Florsheim Shoes, the U.S. Postal Service, Continental Insurance, Honeywell, Cartex, Newark Electronic, First Alert, the City of Naperville, and the City of Joliet, where he retired in July 2004.
Loved ones will remember Alfred as the life of the party who always enjoyed making people laugh.
In his free time, he enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, photography and electronics.
Alfred was preceded in death by his father, Jenkins Patterson, mother Alice Patterson, first wife Ora Lee Patterson, third wife Edith E Patterson, son Reginald Patterson, daughter Alecia Patterson, brother Milford Patterson, sister Dorothy Patterson, and sister Joan Patterson.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Viestas Patterson; children Gerald Patterson, Vernon Patterson, Michael Cummings, Melanie Patterson, Amy Patterson, Melissa (Stanley) Crowder, Tiffany Patterson and Kristen Stone; siblings Laurence (Irene), Ellen (John), Linda, Kevin, and Ronald (Brinda) Vaneta; and his grandchildren, Sean Patterson, Aleeyah Patterson, Ariella Broger, Dontae Crowder and Cory Crowder.
Visitation will be 10:00a.m. until time of service at 11:00a.m. Saturday October 20, 2018 at Faithwalk Harvest Center Church, 400 Maple Ave, Carpentersville, IL.  Interment with military honors will be Noon Monday October 22, 2018 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421.
