Alan G. Haseman, Jr., age 78, of Elgin, passed away July 12, 2019 at home. He was born May 23, 1941 in Elgin to his loving parents, Alan George Haseman Sr. and Helen Taylor-Haseman.
Alan graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1959. He also studied business at Elgin Community College and Georgia Tech.
Alan worked as a printing plant manager.
After meeting through mutual friends, he married Bonnie Kunos-Haseman, and they shared 58 wonderful years together.
Alan treasured time with family, and his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow and learn. He loved to attend his grandson’s baseball games.
Alan was an outdoorsman for all seasons who enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and gardening. He also enjoyed playing cribbage with friends.
His family will cherish many memories of Alan, including:
One early July morning, Alan took his grand-daughter Randi fishing. Around 5:30a.m., Alan hooked a fish for Randi to reel in. After a ten minute struggle, she pulled in a 30″ Northern Pike! Twelve years later, it still reins as the greatest fish story of Randi’s life!
One winter, Alan was en route for a snowmobile trip when he rolled his truck five times on snowy roads, settling into a ditch. He did not have a scratch on him, so he grabbed some goldfish and CD’s before proceeding to rent a car and continue on his way to meet a lifelong friend for dinner. He called this family that night, concerned not about himself or his vehicle, but that he might have accidentally left some CDs in the snow!
For 29 years, on family holidays, Alan and his son would meet at a friend’s house for one shot and one beer at 1:00p.m. They used this special time to reconnect with lifelong friends. After this tradition, they would both celebrate the holidays with dinner and family.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Haseman.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; his son Scott (Becky) Haseman; sister Ann Haseman-Braasch; and grandchildren Randi, Cameron, and Austin.
The above stories reminisce only a few moments of Alan’s 78 years of life; more stories will be told at Elgin Moose Lodge 799, 925 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin from 4:00 -8:00p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 6:00p.m. Interment will be private.
